Arena Solutions
Role: UI/UX Design Intern
Tool: Figma
Overview
We made a prototype of a panel to supplement the current notification system on the dashboard, using assets from the Arena Library provided to us.
The task was to conduct interviews of users with the Project Management intern Piyush, and then both me, and the other designer Lawrence, would use that information to create designs. We iterated separately while giving each other feedback, and with the help of our managers and mentors combined the best of both designs into a final design.
Interviews
Users wanted to be able to access their notifications from anywhere in the system rather than being restricted to the dashboard.
They also expressed that filter functions could be helpful, but confusing for new users.
Research
Many notification panels are accessible from the header bar.
Icons are used to display information
Key Features
Filters/Tabs
Tabs reduced from six to three, with two types in each tab.

Downloads/Drops merged Downloads and Drops
Filters reduced to two main categories of type and time
Downloads/Drops being an exception, being simple enough to just require a time filter.
Notification Layout
Each type has their own requirements, but overall the final layout included: World icon and name, number, title, and time received
Assigned had due dates as well
Download/Drops had overall different information but same layout
Actions (pin and dismiss) are placed at the right hand side of the panel and accessible through hover
